Women's Soccer Wins Crucial Regional Match over Onondaga

The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team earned the 4-0 shutout victory over Onondaga Community College on Friday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead on the Lazers when Marilyn Decker scored her first goal of the game at the nine-minute mark. Decker collected a pass from Kaelyn McMullan and put a well-placed shot just passed the Lazers keeper for the score.

Decker scored again at the 31-minute mark, but this time she was on the receiving end of a pass by Alison Waldron. A couple minutes before the first half concluded the Vikings scored again when Grace Mathes took a cross-pass from Mikayla Bechtel, and sent an off-footed shot to the corner goal.

The Vikings and Lazers played an even second half until Addie Potter found the back of the net at the 75-minute mark, extending Hudson Valley's lead by four goals. Keeper Samerpreet Kaur recorded eight saves as she recorded her second shutout win of the year.

The win puts Hudson Valley at the eighth seed in the NJCAA Region 3 standings as they continue to make a push in qualifying for a postseason berth in its first season back since the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The women's program looks to build upon its Region 3 seeding when they return home this Sunday, October 10 at 1 p.m. when they host Corning at the Outdoor Athletic complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
