Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (5-1) added one to their books as they defeated Erie 5-0 on Homecoming Day at Hudson Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings stuck their ground and came through with a 5-0 win, scoring two goals in the first half and three more in the second half. Brooke Clough started out the first half very strong as she served a cross to Rebecca Fankhanel, who got her head on the ball, putting the Vikings on the board only 2:20 minutes into the half.

Grace Cusack, the Vikings leading scorer, gained the second goal of the game after she took a rebound off Erie's goalie and shot the ball into the net with 26:14 minutes remaining and took the 2-0 lead into the break.

Clough opened the second half once again as she found Sydney Gile open in the offensive flat. Gile took a shot into the upper right corner of the net for the goal.

Morgan Catlin found herself at the top of the 18-yard box and received a pass from Cassie Patrick. Catlin took a prep-touch and shot the ball to the upper right corner of the net, making the Vikings 4-0 with only 33:44 minutes remaining in the game.

Cusack finished the game strong as she took on a few defenders and managed to dribble her way to the goal. Cusack slotted the ball past Erie's goalkeeper 29:20 minutes into the second half, which concluded the 5-0 win by the Vikings.

Bailey Dunn, once again, managed to save the one and only shot taken against the Vikings, leaving them with the 5-0 victory against Erie. Dunn now has four shutout wins on the season and 12 in her career.

The Vikings return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 25 as they welcome rival Herkimer to the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. The women are scheduled to play after the men's game with an approximate 6 p.m. start.
