Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (1-0) opened their 2019 season strong with an 8-0 win against Clinton on Sunday afternoon in Plattsburgh, NY.

The Vikings took a 5-0 lead in the first half and added another three goals in the second half to account for all eight of Hudson Valley's goals. Hudson Valley first goal came from Emily Purkey, when she dribbled up the right side of the field and had her shot rebound off Clinton's goalie and into the hands of Caitlin Houghton. Houghton came up from behind the defense and tapped the rebound into the lower left corner of the goal for the 1-0 advantage.

Juliette Baker secured the second goal of the game at the 21:32 minute mark after receiving a pass from Brooke Clough. Baker sent the ball sailing it into the upper right corner of the net. Sydney Gile followed suit as she scored the Vikings third goal when she intercepted a pass between Clinton defenders and dribbled up the field and slotted the ball into the right lower corner of the net at the 35-minute mark.

Shortly after, Grace Cusack received a pass from Purkey and she swiftly lofted the ball over Clinton's keeper and into the back of the net.

As the game entered halftime, Gile scored her second goal of the game to give Hudson Valley the 5-0 lead at the break. Cassie Patrick passed the ball through the middle of the box, ending with a one-touch shot into the back of the net by Gile.

Once the second half began, the Vikings continued right where they left off, scoring more goals. Clough scored her first goal of the season as she received a pass from Gile, which set up the shot to the back of the net for the goal.

Freshman Rebecca Fankhanel scored the last two goals of the game, one at the 19:16 minute mark and the second off an assist from Clough at 33:59 to score the final goal of the game.

Bailey Dunn saved all of the 3 shots against the Vikings, to secure her ninth career shutout win at Hudson Valley.

The women's soccer team is back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 11 as they travel to face SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury, NY. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
