The Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) and the NJCAA Region 3 released its 2018 women's soccer All-Conference and All-Region teams. Sophomore forward Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) was named NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Year as she headlines the Vikings three All-Region and four All-Conference selections.
The Rotterdam, NY native, was also named the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year to go along with her First Team All-Conference and All-Region selections. Sydnee led the Vikings in scoring for the second consecutive season, in which she set the all-time program record for points with 73, tied the program record for goals in a single season with 28 and placed third overall with 17 assists this season.
"It is a great honor for Hudson Valley and our women's soccer program to have Sydnee be awarded the Region 3 Player of the Year and the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year awards," said women's head soccer coach Jay Pokines. "Winning both awards speak volumes about our program and this year's team. One player may earn the award, but it takes the team to give her the opportunities to become recognized by the Conference and Region 3 Coaches."
Metzold's 28 goals and 73 points has her ranked third among all NJCAA participants and leads all of NJCAA Region 3. In her two-year career as a Vikings, she amassed 40 goals, 26 assists for 106 total points.
Sophomore Serena Gates (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) was named to the NJCAA Region 3 All-Region First Team along with her selection to the Mountain Valley All-Conference Team. Serena led the Vikings backfield that had allowed only 13 goals and boasted a 0.85 goals against average that ranked fifth among Region 3.
Vikings goalkeeper Bailey Dunn (Saugerties/Saugerties) earned NJCAA Region 3 All-Region Second Team for her role in protecting the net this season. Dunn played every minute in goal this year, totaling 1,370 minutes and allowed only 13 goals with 58 saves for a .817 save percentage. Dunn placed second among Region 3 goalkeepers with eight shutout victories. Dunn also earned a Mountain Valley All-Conference selection as one of the top goalkeepers in the conference.
Another Vikings student-athlete to earn postseason recognition was freshman forward Brooke Clough (Latham/Shaker). Clough was named to the Mountain Valley All-Conference team following a season in which she scored 16 goals and added nine assists for 41 points. Clough's offensive prowess ranks second on the team and will be considered as one of the team's leaders in 2019.
"As the season evolved, it showed how talented we were, by our play each game and then being rewarded with four players selected to the All-Conference Team as well as three players selected for the All-Region team, at the end of the season," continued Pokines. "I have high hopes for each member of this year's team with regards to their futures, as returning players, moving on to a four-year soccer program and continuing with their academic careers to become brilliant professionals."
