The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team tipped off the 2025–26 season in dominant fashion Thursday night, defeating SUNY Orange 69–26 at the McDonough Sports Complex.
The Vikings took control early and never looked back, jumping out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and holding the Colts to just 26 points for the game. Hudson Valley's defensive pressure and balanced offensive attack set the tone from the opening tip.
Sophomore Myanna Faraj led the way for the Vikings, scoring a game-high 22 points while adding six rebounds and seven assists. Gracemary Baumann added 14 points and six rebounds, while Alessia Salierno contributed 12 points and four boards in the win.
Hudson Valley shot an efficient 42% from the field (28-for-66) and dominated the glass with 41 total rebounds, compared to Orange's 30. The Vikings' defense stifled the Colts all night, limiting them to just 17% shooting and one three-pointer on ten attempts.
With the victory, the Vikings start the season 1-0 and look to carry that momentum into their next matchup on Saturday, November 8th against Mohawk Valley on the road at 2pm.
