The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team closed out the first half of the season on a high note with a 60-55 home win against Tompkins Cortland on Wednesday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, NY.

The women's team jumped out to an early 16-9 lead in the first quarter with Nya Ewans-Edmonds leading the way with six points for the Vikings. Hudson Valley extended its lead in the second quarter behind a pair of three-point field goals by Leemya Garcia. Garcia led the Vikings with eight second quarter points as they entered the halftime break leading the Panthers 31-21.

The Panthers did not give up and tried to cut into the Vikings lead, however Hudson Valley always had an answer for any late game run by Tompkins Cortland as Vikings pulled out their sixth win of the season.

Ewans-Edmonds finished with a team-high 18 points, while Kat Stackrow tallied 15 points and Garcia scored double-figures for the second straight game as she finished with 12 points, including a pair of three-point field goals.

The women's basketball team ends the Fall 2021 season with a 6-5 record, including five wins in their last seven games. They will return to the court in the new year on Thursday, January 13 when they welcome Mohawk Valley to the McDonough Sports Complex at Hudson Valley Community College for a 5 p.m. start. The game will be streamed live at hvccathletics.com/watch.
