Women's Basketball Can't Sustain Strong Start vs. Genesee

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball couldn't hold off Genesee and fell at home 72-64 on Sunday afternoon in the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, NY. 

The Vikings came out of the gates scoring in bunches and at an efficient rate. Led by Leemya Garcia, who finished with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-20 from the floor, scored 16 of her total points in the first half. She was a key factor to the early success as the Vikings entered the halftime break leading 40-32. 

The second half was a different story as Hudson Valley's offense went cold, shooting 24 percent from the floor and were held to 24 total points, including nine in the final frame by the Genesee defense. 

Kat Stackrow played 39 minutes and finished 9-of-27 from the floor for 18 points, including 0-of-7 from behind the three-point arc. Nya Ewans-Edmonds started the game strong and finished with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Ewans-Edmonds also tallied eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Stackrow recorded another double-double for the Vikings as she grabbed 12 boards to go with three assists and three steals.

Women's basketball closed out the fall 2021 semester this Wednesday, December 8 when they welcome Tompkins Cortland to the McDonough Sports Complex at Hudson Valley Community College. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and can be viewed online at HVCCAthletics.com/watch.
