Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight in Dominating Fashion

The Hudson Valley men's basketball team earned their fifth straight win after defeating Tompkins Cortland 89-39 on Sunday afternoon in Dryden, NY. 

The Vikings team defense stifled the Panthers offense and held them to 18 percent shooting with only 13 made field goals. Hudson Valley recorded 15 steals and added 37 defensive rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the floor. 

Offensively, Alexandra Rifenburg (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) led all scorers with a career-high 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-10 from behind the arc. Freshman Nia Gray (Fort Drum/Indian River) also had a great scoring game as she finished with a career-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting. 

Emily Erickson (Melrose/Tamarac) and Grace VanRoy (Saugerties/Saugerties) combined to score 27 points as VanRoy recorded a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds (10 defensive). Erickson played 26 minutes and shot 5-of-11 from the floor and hit one three-point field goal for 15 points. 

Hudson Valley returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 16 as they travel to play nationally ranked Mohawk Valley at 5 p.m. in Utica, NY.
