Women's basketball defeated Bryant & Stratton 70 to 41 on November 16, 2019

The Hudson Valley women's basketball team (4-2) remained unbeaten at home this season after defeating Bryant & Stratton (Albany) 70-41 on Saturday afternoon at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

Once again, the Vikings jumped out to an early lead, quickly gaining a double-digit advantage after starting the game on a 9-0 run and eventually ended the first quarter with a 13-4 lead. 

The Vikings continued to shoot well in the second quarter and scored 21 points while holding the Bobcats to just eight second quarter points. In the second, the Vikings were led by Emily Erickson (Melrose/Tamarac), who scored eight points in the quarter. Grace VanRoy (Saugerties / Saugerties) dominated the defensive glass as she recorded six rebounds and added two steals and a block. The Vikings entered halftime leading 34-12. Erickson finished the game with game-high 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting. VanRoy played 31 minutes and posted a career-high 15 rebounds and added seven points. 

The third quarter featured more of the same from the second quarter, with the Vikings outscoring Bryant & Stratton 23-14. The Vikings shot 6-of-12 from behind the arc in the quarter, which played a major role as the Vikings continued to extend their lead. 

Freshman Alexandra Rifenburg (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) also posted double-digit scoring as she finished with 13 points on 5-of-18 shooting, including three 3-point field goals. 

The Vikings are home again on Wednesday, Nov. 20 for a match up with Dutchess. The Vikings are schedule to tip off at 5 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
