Erickson Scores 28 as Women's Basketball Cruises to Win

The Hudson Valley women's basketball team (3-2) remained unbeaten at home this season after defeating Adirondack 92-48 on Wednesday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead, quickly gaining a double-digit advantage as they entered the first timeout with an 11-0 lead. The Vikings first half scoring was even throughout the entire lineup with Emily Erickson (Melrose/Tamarac) leading the way with eight first quarter points. Erickson finished with a career-best 28 points, including 19 second half points. She also added four rebounds and two steals to go with her game-high scoring average. 

Following a slow first half, freshman Riley Paul (Kinderhook/Ichabod Crane) finished strong with 13 points in the second half as she posted a career-high 16 points and five rebounds. Joining Paul and Erickson was Alexandra Rifenburg (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley), who guided the Vikings to the strong first half start. Rifenburg scored 13 of her 16 points in the first two quarters of the game, which included a pair of three-point field goals.  

The Vikings are back home this Saturday, November 16 for a match up with Bryant & Stratton (Albany). The women's game will begin at the conclusion of the men's game vs. Rockland, approximately at 3 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
