GAME ONE (5/23): #5 HVCC 5 - #1 NORTH DAKOTA SCS 13
Despite leading by as many as five runs, the Vikings fell to North Dakota 13-5 on Friday at Carrier Park in Syracuse, NY for the NJCAA National World Series.
The Vikings jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Maeve Brannigan singled, scoring one run, Reegan Mullen singled, scoring one run, and Anna Siter doubled, scoring three runs.
Moira Collins pitched three innings in relief for the Vikings. The pitcher surrendered five hits and nine runs (five earned) while, striking out one and walking four. Mullen led things off in the circle for the Vikings. The starter allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking three.
Siter, the number eight hitter for the Vikings, led the way with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Brannigan, Siter, Mullen, and Lily Brennan each collected one hit for the Vikings. Izabelle Ratcliffe led the Vikings with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up four walks for the game. The Vikings turned one double play in the game.
GAME TWO (5/24): #5 HVCC 0 - #6 MONROE CC 3
Both teams were strong in the circle on Saturday, but Monroe was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-0 victory over the Vikings. Moira Collins started the game for the Vikings and recorded 18 outs. The Vikings lost despite out-hitting Monroe seven to five. Kayden Craft and Angelise Montanez each collected two hits for the Vikings.
Collins stepped in the circle first for the Vikings. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking five.
The Vikings finish their season with an impressive winning record of 23-7! The sophomore-led powerhouse of a team dominated their season, winning the Mountain Valley Conference and making it all the way to the NJCAA National Tournament.
