The Hudson Valley Community College softball program (21-13) saw its season comes to an end on Wednesday afternoon as they were defeated by Herkimer in the NJCAA Region 3B Championship series in Herkimer, NY

The Vikings had a historic run this season, which included a 17-game win streak, which catapulted them into the No. 3 seed for the NJCAA Region 3 playoffs. The Vikings finished with 21 wins and a winning record for the first time since the 2015 season, when they earned a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament.

GAME ONE: Herkimer 9, Hudson Valley 4

The opening game of the series had the Vikings offense up and running as they jumped out to a quick lead, but the Vikings gave up a seven-run inning to the Generals in the fourth inning, which ultimately put the game out of reach of a comeback against a quality program like Herkimer.

The Vikings tallied nine hits with Abigayle Campbell and Katie Mannis each recording a multi-hit game. The duo each managed to collect two hits, which led the Vikings in game one.

GAME TWO: Herkimer 9, Hudson Valley 1 ( 5 innings)

In the final game of the day, the Generals offense consistently put up three runs in three consecutive innings, to enforce the eight-run mercy rule on the Vikings. They scored three runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Hudson Valley scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning when Abigayle Campbell connected on a 1-2 pitch for a double to center field, which allowed Peckowitz, who reached base on a hit by pitch, to score from first base.
