The Hudson Valley Community College baseball and softball teams can each find itself in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll. The baseball team is ranked fifth and the softball team is ranked 10th.
Hudson Valley's baseball team has won eight of its last nine games to run its record to 15-7 on the season. Hudson Valley pitchers have combined to allow less that two runs per game over the last nine games. Sophomore left-hander William Lewis (Middletown/Middletown High School) leads the staff this season. He is 4-1 with a 0.62 ERA. He has fanned 29 batters in 29 innings of work. Sophomore Anthony Bloomfield (Albany/Bishop Maginn High School) is 2-1 with a 3.79 ERA.
At the plate, the Vikings are paced by sophomore Dan Bruno (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School). He's hitting .373 with four doubles and 15 RBI. Freshman Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) is batting .346 with six doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI.
After a tough spring trip, Hudson Valley's softball team has won its last five games to even its record at 5-5 on the year. Freshman pitcher Kim Wintergerst (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School), who also was the Region III runner-up at No. 1 singles for the Hudson Valley tennis team last fall, is 3-1 with a 0.33 ERA.
Freshman Natalie Schroll (Loudonville/Holy Names) is leading the Lady Vikings offensive attack with a .438 batting average. Sophomore Jessalyn Hotaling (Coeymans Hollow/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) is hitting .417.
