The Hudson Valley Community College softball team suffered a 4-3 setback to SUNY Canton in its season opener in West Palm Beach, Fla. on Sunday, March 27. The Lady Vikings also dropped a doubleheader at Miami-Dade Community College on Monday, March 28. Miami-Dade won the opener, 7-3, and the nightcap, 7-6.
Canton rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Hudson valley in the season opener. Hudson Valley pitchers Laura Rogers and Jessalyn Hotaling combined for 13 strikeouts but it was not enough. Amanda Meher had a pair of singles to lead Hudson Valley at the plate.
Sophomore Dana Herchenroder had a two-run single and freshman Natalie Schroll drove in a run in the opener for Hudson Valley against Miami-Dade.
In the second game, Hotaling and freshman Ashley Daurio each had a pair of singles for Hudson Valley.
