Men's Track and Field Placed Runner-Up at Regionals

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs both finished runner-up at the 2024 NJCAA Region 3 Championships, hosted by HVCC on Saturday at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The men's team accumulated 177 total points and finished behind Region 3 champion, Mohawk Valley, who tallied 206 points.
The men's team accumulated six event wins on the day which was highlighted by Jordan Goddard winning the men's 100m dash with a time of 11.58 seconds. Raj Hillhouse also competed in the event and placed seventh overall with a time of 11.84 seconds. Hillhouse also had a big run in the men's 200m dash as he placed second overall with a time of 23.52 seconds.
Ben Ross claimed the Region 3 championship in the men's 400m dash as he won the event with a time of 22.8 seconds. A duo of Vikings finished 1-2 in the men's 400m hurdles events to claim 18 team points. Kyler Alston finished the event in under one-minute as he posted a time of 55.51 seconds. Chauncey Khamani placed second overall with a time of 1:01.98.
In the distance events, Ian Shaw placed third overall in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.35 and Adam Blough placed second in the men's 5,000m event with a time of 19:17.60 and second place in the men's 10,000 event (which was previously held at the SUNY Cortland meet). Blough continued his success at the distance events in the men's 3,000m steeplechase event as he finished third overall with a time of 11:42.75.
The team relays had success for the Vikings today. The quartet of Ben Ross, Raj Hillhouse, Kyler Alston and Jordan Goddard won the Region 3 championship in the men's 4x100 meter relay event as they finished with a time of 44.04 seconds. The foursome of Ross, Hillhouse, Khamani and Alston placed second overall in the men's 4x400 meter relay. In the 4x800 meter relay, Blough, Shaw, Lawless and Christopher Hertle placed third overall with a time of 10:12.86.
Hudson Valley claimed the top two spots in the pole vault event as they were led by Connor Holt, who won the title with a distance of 3.35m. Camden Hartshorn placed second and tallied a height of 3.05m.
Brooks Robson continued to put up big numbers in the long jump and the triple jump. Robson won the triple jump with a final jump distance of 13.90m. Brooks placed second overall in the long jump with a jump of 6.56m.
Antonio Filippone earned six team points following his third-place finish in the men's shot put event. He tossed his final throw 11.04m to take the third-place spot, just missing second place by 0.02m.
The 2024 Region 3 Decathlon champion, Dylan Lawless, earned more team points as he placed fourth in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 19.00 seconds. Lawless also finished fourth overall in the javelin throw with a distance of 34.94m.
The men's team is set to compete at the 2024 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships next week, a three-day event, beginning on Thursday, May 9th at Mohawk Valley in Utica, NY.
