The Hudson Valley men's soccer program earned their first win of the 2019 season after defeating Dutchess 3-1 on Thursday evening at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.

Following their shutout loss on Tuesday, the Vikings offense erupted for three goals to start the first half and eventually took a 3-1 lead into half time. Giovanni Audi kicked off the Vikings scoring with a successful penalty kick less than nine minutes into the game. Audi put pressure on the Falcons defense and drew the foul inside the box to earn the penalty kick opportunity.

Marcello Fazio scored to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead on a well-placed pass by Connor Van Sise with 21 minutes remaining in the opening half. Fazio's goal hit the cross bar twice before sneaking over the goal line for his first goal of his career.

Hudson Valley continued to defend well and created additional scoring opportunities, which resulted in their third goal of the game. Rohan Clarke, in his first collegiate game, scored with 11 minutes remaining in the first half and helped extend the Vikings lead to 3-0.

A few minutes later, Dutchess responded with their only goal of the game, a one-on-one scoring opportunity that resulted in a goal to the top left corner of the goal, just out of the reach of Hudson Valley's keeper, Nate Langlois. Langlois finished the game with four saves.

The men's soccer team returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 8 as they travel to play Clinton in Plattsburgh, NY. The game is scheduled to begin immediately following the women's game around 3 p.m.
