The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse (2-2) team dropped a tough home match to Potomac State 12-11 in overtime on Wednesday afternoon at the Vikings Outdoor Athletic Complex in Troy, NY. 

For the third consecutive game, the Vikings fell behind early and had to fight their way back against a competitive opponent in Potomac State. Hudson Valley trailed 5-2 after the first quarter and entered halftime down 6-5, following 3 goals in the second quarter. 

Potomac and Hudson Valley combined to score nine goals in the third quarter, with the Vikings taking the 5-4 advantage and entered the final quarter tied 9-9. 

Hudson Valley took over the lead with 3:44 remaining in the game when Austin Hinderliter (Ephratah/Johnstown), connected for an unassisted goal, giving the Vikings a 11-10 lead. The Vikings held on the the one goal lead for the next three minutes, when Potomac State found the back of the net to tie the game at 11-11.

In the overtime period, both teams had an opportunity to end the game early with the golden goal, but ultimately, Potomac State won the game as their last shot just inched over the crease for the game-winning goal. 

Darren Nagy (Saugerties/Saugerties) and John Lawlor (Colonie/Colonie) led the Vikings offense as the duo each scored three goals and Nathan Bruce (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) added a pair of goals and one assist. 

Nicholas Malatesta (North Greenbush/Averill Park) joined Nagy, Lawlor and Bruce with three points in the game. Malatesta did not score but he directly orchestrated three goals for Hudson Valley as he finished the game with a team-high three assists. 

The Vikings men's lacrosse program is back home next Wednesday, March 20 when they welcome nationally ranked Genesee at 4 p.m. at the Vikings Outdoor Athletic Complex.
