Lacrosse Season Concludes at NJCAA Regionals

Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse (9-4) concluded its 2018 season following tonight's 11-8 loss at Tompkins-Cortland in the opening round of the NJCAA Region 3 tournament.

The Vikings and the Panthers fought hard in the first half of the game as they entered the break tied 6-6. Hudson Valley scored four goals in the first quarter and were led by Nathan Bruce (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) and Mark Calicchia (Loudonville/Shaker). Bruce and Calicchia had a hand in each first quarter goals as they each recorded one goal and one assist.

The Vikings entered the final quarter trailing 9-8 but they couldn't find an answer to the Panthers' fourth quarter defense and Hudson Valley failed to score a goal in the final quarter.

Calicchia finished with a team high four points with three goals and one assist. The Vikings team leader in points and goals, Aaron Thorpe (Malta/Ballston Spa) was held to one goal and one assist.

Vikings goalkeeper Trevor Ham (Kingston/Kingston) saved a season best 19 shots.

The season concludes as the Vikings improved on its 2017 season by winning three more games which included a breakout season by sophomore Thorpe. Thorpe finished the season second in Vikings history with 48 goals and 78 points on the year.
