Men's Lacrosse Never Trailed in Win over Jefferson

Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse (3-1) never trailed as the Vikings defeated Jefferson 11-5 on Saturday afternoon in Schenectady, N.Y. on the campus of Union College.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of the first quarter with Darren Nagy (Saugerties/Saugerties) putting Hudson Valley on the board at the 12:29 mark. Mark Calicchia (Loudonville/Shaker) and Aaron Thorpe (Malta/Ballston Spa) also scored in the first quarter for the Vikings.

In the second half, the Vikings were led by Calicchia as he scored three more goals in the final 16 minutes of the game to help the Vikings prevent a late game comeback from Jefferson. Jefferson fought back in the third quarter and reduced their deficit to 7-4 as the game entered the final quarter.

The Vikings went of a 4-0 run in the fourth quarter, led by Calicchia's two goals. Nagy also scored and finished the game with three goals on seven shots, including five shots on goal. Nathan Bruce (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) found the back of the net with 24 seconds remaining in the game for his second goal of the game.

Trae Dussault (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) led the Vikings with three assists, while Bruce and Luke Abbott (Rensselaer/Columbia) combined to collect 20 ground balls in the Vikings win.

The Vikings are back in action this Wednesday, Mar. 28 as they travel to play Tompkins-Cortland at 4 p.m. The men's lacrosse program is not home against until Wednesday, April 11 when they welcome Mohawk Valley to Troy, N.Y.
