The unfortunate nature of the worldwide pandemic, COVID-19, has forced Hudson Valley Community College as well as the NJCAA and the NCAA to cancel the remainder of the spring seasons. Although the seasons will not go on, the Vikings department of athletics wants to take this opportunity to still highlight the spring programs.
Golf
Anthony Bisognano and Sean Corrigan are the two sophomores that would have competed this spring season. The expectations for the spring season were high based on the work ethic the coaching staff had seen, not only for Anthony and Sean, but from the other members of the team.
Anthony is a returning player who had a great season last year as a freshman. Anthony qualified for the Region 3 Tournament and National Tournament and shot a low round of 75. This season he has been working hard since the team started working inside in February. He attended the early morning practices with the focus of getting his short game ready. Like every spring sport, Anthony was ready to be outside as soon as the weather allowed. He was committed to working on his game, sharpening the skills that he already had, and working to improve on the areas that were not up to his standards. Anthony is the type of student-athlete that is always there to support his team, asking how everyone else's round was going while on the course and continued the conversations off the course when the round was completed. Anthony stayed calm, cool and collected on the golf course regardless of the round he was having or the conditions he was playing in. Anthony took pride is working on his golf game not during practice but on his own time.
Sean is a new member of the team this year and he joined the team ready to work on his game for the upcoming tournaments. At practice, Sean worked hard on his short game but also focused on generating good and consistent contact with his irons.
Both Anthony and Sean were going to be great members of the team this season and had a great chance to qualify for the regional and national tournaments at the end of the season. It is unfortunate that they cannot showcase their hard work on the golf course this spring.
Although the 2020 season has been canceled, our golf coaches want to hear from all prospective student-athletes interested in joining the team next season. Be sure to reach out and let them know you want to be a VIKING!
