The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team secured a critical 87–82 home win over Clinton Community College, improving to 2–5 on the season following a challenging start. The game took place Wednesday night at the McDonough Sports Complex, where the Vikings showed resilience in front of a fired-up home crowd.
Hudson Valley jumped out to a 43–38 lead at halftime and rebounded from earlier season stumbles to fend off a determined Clinton push in the closing minutes. The Vikings' defense held strong when it mattered most.
Kemontae Thawe led the way with 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting, along with six rebounds and six assists. Julius Reed also posted 20 points and chipped in eight rebounds, three assists and seven steals, while Ian Fisher-Layton added 16 points and six boards in a solid supporting role.
The Vikings shot 40.5 % from the floor and executed defensive stops at key junctures in the second half, thwarting Clinton's offense and protecting the lead in the game's final stretch.
With momentum restored, Hudson Valley now turns its focus to the upcoming NECC Turkey Classic. The Vikings will travel to Northern Essex Community College and tip off on Friday, November 28 at 4:00pm.
