Green, Bourgault, Veidemanis All Score 20-plus in Win over TC3

The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team closed out the first half of the season on a high note with an 81-70 home win against Tompkins Cortland on Wednesday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, NY. 

Eriks Veidemanis and Luke Bourgault led the Vikings in the first half as they entered the break with a narrow 35-33 lead over the Panthers from Tompkins Cortland. Veidemanis found his range as he finished with 12 points with four, three-point field goals. Bourgault also hit a pair from deep range and finished the first half with 10 points. 

In the second half, the Vikings offense stalled early, which allowed the Panthers to catch up and eventually overtake Hudson Valley with a 44-38 advantage with 15:12 remaining in the game. The Vikings responded with a quick 6-0 run to during a span of 30 seconds to tie the game up at 44-44. 

Hudson Valley continued with the momentum and went on to outscore the Panthers 37-26 over the remainder of the game to secure the Vikings sixth win of the season. Trevor Green exploded for 20 points in the second half to lead all scorers with 24 points. Veidemanis finished with 20 points with seven field goals, including five from behind the three-point arc. Bourgault also finished with 20 points, giving the Vikings three players to finish with 20-points or more in the game. 

The men's basketball team ends the Fall 2021 season with a 6-6 record and will return to the court in the new year on Monday, January 10 when they welcome Columbia-Greene to the McDonough Sports Complex at Hudson Valley Community College for a 1 p.m. start.
