Men's Basketball Extends Streak to Eight; McKenly Leads with 30 Points

The Hudson Valley men's basketball team put on an offensive showcase in their eighth straight win after a convincing 122-85 win over Columbia-Greene on Wednesday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

The eighth straight win has the Vikings sitting inside the top-4 of the most recent NJCAA Region 3 standings with an overall record of 20-6, marking the second straight season the Vikings hit the 20-win plateau. 

The Vikings played above the rim all night long as they gave the crowd a handful of highlight dunks and fast-paced action at the rim. Brandon McKenly (Brooklyn / Leadership & Public Service) had a career night as he finished with a personal best 30 points. 

As a team, the Vikings had seven total individuals score at least 10 points. Avery Deas (Rotterdam / Mohonasen) continued to play well and finished with 14 points, while Jordan Lewis (East Meadow / West Hempstead) hit some big shots for 11 points in the second half to help Hudson Valley pull further away from the Twins. 

Iziah Pigott (Brooklyn / Urban Assembly for Law & Justice) scored all of his 12 points in the first half of the game, which led to the Vikings leading 68-35 at halftime, the most points Hudson Valley has scored in the first half this season. 

The 122 total points are the most points scored by Hudson Valley in the recent history of the men's program, dating back to the 2002 season. It was also the most points scored since they put up 116 points in their win over Schenectady in 2016. 

Zach Price (West Sand Lake / Averill Park), Luke Bourgault (Troy / LaSalle) and Zach Hilton (Rensselaerville / Berne-Knox-Westerlo) also scored in double-figures and combined to score 33 points. Price hit a couple three-point field goals and finished with 10 points, while Bourgault posted 11 points and Hilton tallied 12 points. 

Hudson Valley returns home this Sunday, February 16 when they welcome Mohawk Valley to the McDonough Sports Complex beginning at 3 p.m., immediately following the women's game.
