The Hudson Valley men's basketball team pushed their win streak to seven straight games after the Vikings defeated North County 87-63 on Saturday afternoon in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead, shooting the ball well, while causing North Country to turn the ball over often in the first 15 minutes of the game. North Country made a run and took a 37-35 lead into the break.

In the second half, the game felt like the Vikings were letting the game slip away as the Saints pushed the lead up to seven points, but the Vikings slowed down and regrouped to eventually push through for the convincing win.

Leading the way for the Vikings was freshman Brandon McKenly, who finished the game with game-high 21 points on 10 made field goals. Nearing the end of the game, Daivel Jackson was able to break free from the Saints defense and throw down a couple monster dunks to add to the already excited atmosphere in the McDonough Sports Complex. Jackson finished the game with 14 points, with 12 points coming in the second half.

Luke Bourgault also had a big second half to help the Vikings overcome their early deficit. Bourgault scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, which included a pair of three-point field goals. Ryan Long added 11 points and Iziah PigottZachary Hilton and Avery Deas each scored eight points.

Hudson Valley returns home this Wednesday, February 12 when they take on rival Columbia-Greene in the McDonough Sports Complex at 5 p.m. on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
