Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball (1-0) utilized their solid defense and high-flying athleticism to win their season opener 101-62 against Rockland in McDonough Sports Complex on Thursday evening. 

The Vikings came out of the gates ready to play as they jumped out to an early lead behind the quick start by O'Nandi Brooks (Brooklyn/George Westinghouse). Brooks led the Vikings with nine field goals made for 19 points and added eight rebounds. 

Caleb Canty (Hudson/Hudson) connected from downtown three times to finish tied for the team lead with 19 points in the game. Canty also led the Vikings on the defensive front, recording three steals and added a pair of assists. 

FreshmanJordan Gleason (Wynantskill/Watervliet) had a standout performance in his first appearance for the Vikings. Gleason recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. He also kept the offense running on all cylinders as he finished with seven assists. 

Josiah McCall (Beacon/Beacon) and Brandon Holmes (Troy/Troy) also had double-digit scoring efforts coming off the bench for the Vikings. McCall tallied 15 points and five rebounds, while Holmes hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with 10 points. 

The men's basketball team is back home on Saturday, November 3 to play Cayuga. The tip is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex.
