Hudson Valley Drills Eight 3-Pointers En Route
To A Mountain Valley Conference Victory
Troy, December 2 - Hudson Valley Community College's men's basketball team, ranked ninth in the nation among NJCAA Division III squads, hit eight 3-pointers this afternoon, including three by freshman forward Billy Etue (Heatly), to beat Broome Community College, 62-54.
A 3-point bucket by Etue, with 5:27 remaining in the first half, put Hudson Valley ahead 22-20. The Vikings would never trail again, closing out the final 5:27 of the half with a 15-6 run.
Broome made it interesting, pulling to within five points with 42 seconds left in the game. Hudson Valley's Paul Bowe (Hudson Falls) hit four free throws down the stretch though, and Jason McKinney (South Glens Falls) added two from the charity stripe to keep Broome at bay.
McKinney, a first-year forward, led all scorers with 13 points. Thomas Perren (Brotmanville, NJ) had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kurt Bush (Newcomb-Minerva) contributed 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. Point guard Kyle Miller (Columbia) had seven rebounds and four steals.
The Vikings are now 7-1. The loss drops Broome to 3-6.
