The Hudson Valley Community College football program continued to build upon its quick start to the season as they defeated Montclair State JV 28-14 on Friday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC.
The football program improves to 3-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2014 season when the Vikings started that year winning its first eight games.
As a team the Vikings combined for 386 total yards on offense with 210 passing and 176 rushing yards. Cameron Harbaugh continued to play well as he finished the game 14-of-27 with 189 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Harbaugh connected with Brandon (Cam) Hawkins and Damien Santiago to scores. Hawkins finished the day with 92 yards on four catches and Santiago added 43 yards on five catches.
On the ground, Treshawn Patterson led the team in rushing once again as he finished with 120 rushing yards on 12 attempts. Patterson dazzled the home crowd in the fourth quarter as he turned an impossible run on a broken assignment into an 80-yard touchdown run. Patterson's "angry run" helped put the Vikings ahead 28-7 with 12:07 remaining in the game.
Defensively, the Vikings allowed only 107 yards of total offense with 93 passing yards and 14 rushing yards. The Vikings' run defense has been dominating through the first three games of the season, allowing just 13.3 rushing yards per game. Alexander Hedhili had six tackles with 1.5 sacks and 2 tackles for loss to lead the defensive front seven.
Brandon White and Caleb Blane each finished with five tackles with White adding 0.5 sacks and 0.5 tackles for loss. Blane also added 1.5 tackles for loss on the day. Sebastian Farrar provided the Vikings with a big defensive spark as he tallied the team's only interception and returned it 30 yards to help close out the first half with the Vikings leading 14-7.
The Vikings hit the road next week as they travel to play Nichols College JV on Sunday, September 15th. The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start in Dudley, Mass.
