Football Falls Short at Nassau

Hudson Valley Community College football (1-3) dropped a tough road matchup against Nassau 28-12 on Saturday afternoon in Garden City, NY. 

Following a scoreless first quarter, Nassau jumped on the scoreboard with 9:03 remaining in the half. Nassau's Teachey caught a 21-yard pass from Sanchez for the touchdown. Nassau entered the break with the 7-0 advantage. 

The Vikings regrouped during halftime and owned the third quarter. Hudson Valley scored 12 unanswered points in the quarter and took a 12-7 lead into the final quarter of the game. 

In the fourth, Nassau outscored the Vikings 21-0, which was highlighted by a 66-yard run my J. McLune, which capped a 2-play, 64-yards scoring drive. The touchdown gave Nassau a 21-12 advantage. The Lions went on to score again with less than two minutes remaining in the game to secure the win. 

For the Vikings, Alex Dembroski finished the game throwing 22-for-37 for 159 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. 

Desi Floyd, Tahj Snow and Tyheem Black split the backfield duties this afternoon with Floyd accumulating 50 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown, Snow added 22 yards on 10 carries and Black tallied 16 yards on nine carries. 

Melvin Reid was on the receiving end of Dembroski's touchdown pass in the third quarter, which was a 12-yard touchdown reception. Reid finished the game with 43 yards on six catches. Daniel Manneh added55 yards on seven receptions. 

Defensively, the Vikings forced multiple turnovers in every game this season. Hudson Valley's Daniel Slade, Andrew Liverman and Jalen Davis each recorded an interception against Nassau.

The Vikings will have an opportunity to avenge their loss to Ithaca JV as they travel back to Ithaca, NY on Sunday, Oct. 6 for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
