The fall sports programs at Hudson Valley Community College had a full weekend of competition, beginning with the football team (2-2) who traveled to Alfred State College on Saturday and came away with a 27-21 victory. The Vikings, 1-1 in the conference, exploded for 535 yards on offense. Leading the way was quarterback Andreas Hudson (Frankford High School/Philadelphia, PA), who passed for 403 yards and two touchdowns in the game. His performance shattered the single game passing record of 298 yards previously held by John Santanna (1991). The Vikings will host Erie Community College this Saturday, Oct.4, at Noon in their first home game of the season, which is also Homecoming Weekend at Hudson Valley Community College.
Also in action Saturday, the women's soccer team (4-5) hosted undefeated Broome Community College. The Vikings played tough for the first 45 minutes, trailing only 1-0 at the half before falling 5-1. The women next travel to Fulton Montgomery Community College on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Following the women's game on Saturday, Sept.27, the Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team (9-0-1), now ranked second in the nation, shutout Broome Community College 2-0. Mike Ackerman (Maple Hill High School/Castleton, NY) had one goal and one assist, while Trent Mendrysa (Columbia High School/East Greenbush, NY) had three saves. The men's soccer team will host Fulton Montgomery Community College at 4 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 2.
The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team (11-8) competed in a tournament in Springfield, MA hosted by Holyoke College on Saturday and Sunday. Overall, the Vikings went 3-4 on the weekend and advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament. Their wins came against Northern Essex, New Hampshire Technical Institute and Hesser. They dropped close matches to Holyoke, Springfield JV, and Community College of Rhode Island in pool play and the semi-finals. The women are at home on Tuesday, Sept. 30 vs. Word of Life.
