Two former Hudson Valley Community College football players recently have made news in the professional ranks.
Huey Whittaker, a wide receiver who played at Hudson Valley in 1999 before transferring to the University of South Florida, signed a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has been allocated to the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe for the 2005 season. Whittaker was on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad in 2004.
In his 11th Arena Football League season, Cecil Doggette has become only the fifth player in league history to amass 500 career tackles. He also is the league's all-time leader with 147 pass breakups. Doggette played at Hudson Valley in 1988 and 1989 before transferring to West Virginia University.
