The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team split the home series against Cayuga on Thursday afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

Game One: Cayuga 8, Hudson Valley 7

The Vikings couldn't overcome Cayuga as their two-out comeback effort came up short. Following a walk to Jackson WenstromNick Thomas sent a deep home run over the right centerfield fence to bring the Vikings within one run. Vicente Mendoza just missed a fastball as he hit it to the warning track, just short of a game-tying home run for the final out of the game.

Hudson Valley totaled eight hits and scored seven runs with six RBI on 23 at-bats. Nick Hansen led the way with two hits, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning. The loss in game one brought an end to the Vikings six game win streak.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 5, Cayuga 1

In the second game, the Vikings scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Cayuga for the series split.

In the sixth inning, Hudson Valley recorded five straight hits, including two doubles to score three runs. Anthony Raimo hit a two-run double to score Ryan Starr and Mendoza. Raimo scored on the next at-bat when Matt Dagostino hit an RBI single.

James Rubino earned the start on the mound and tossed a complete game. Rubino gave up one earned run on four hits and added six strikeouts and two walks for his second win of the season.

As a team, Hudson Valley recorded nine hits in 26 at-bats with 4 RBI in the win.

Hudson Valley returns to the field on Tuesday, April 23 when they host Mohawk Valley at Joe Bruno Stadium. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.
