The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team are fired up and rolling on all cylinders following their latest sweep of ASA Brooklyn, a NJCAA Division-1 program, on Saturday afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium. The Vikings have now won 11 of their last 12 games, including four straight wins.

Game One: Hudson Valley 3, ASA Brooklyn 2 (8 innings)

The Vikings took the first game in walk-off fashion as Chris Kordziel (Rotterdam/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) hit a game-winning double in the bottom of the eighth inning. In an emergency start, freshman pitcher Ryan Lawyer (Niskayuna/Colonie) took the mound and tossed a masterful eight inning complete game to earn his second win of the season.

Hudson Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force the extra frame. Despite striking out 14 times on the day, the Vikings never gave up and continued to chip away with good at-bats in the seventh to produce two runs on three hits.

Anthony Raimo (Guilderland/CBA) and Matt Dagostino (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) led off the seventh with back-to-back singles. Following a walk to Nick Hansen (Troy/LaSalle Institute), Derrick Miller (Westernville/Rome free Academy) connected for a RBI single to cut into ASA Brooklyn's lead, 2-1. With bases loaded, Jackson Wenstrom (Mandan, ND/Mandan) was hit by a pitch to bring in the tying run.

The Vikings played effective small ball in the eighth inning following a leadoff single by Vicente Mendoza (Norwood, Mass./Xavierian). Jeremy Clayton (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) moved Mendoza into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Kobe Jackson (Little Falls/Little Falls) followed up with a walk to bring Kordziel to the plate. With two runners on base and two outs, Kordziel doubled a 1-0 pitch to drive in Mendoza for the winning run.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 6, ASA Brooklyn 5

In the second game, sophomore Jimmy Griffin (Watervliet/Watervliet) tossed a great first inning in his first start of the year. Trailing 3-1, Wenstrom put the Vikings back on top for a 4-3 lead with a three-run home run in the third inning.

Hudson Valley tallied two additional runs in the fifth inning, which was kicked off by a walk to Wenstrom. Angelo Spataro (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Clayton then hit back-to-back RBI triples to extend the Vikings lead to 6-3.

ASA Brooklyn made a late game rally with a two-run seventh inning, but fell short as Donny Chrysler (Guilderland/Guilderland) entered the game and shutdown their comeback attempt for his second save of the season.

Ryan Bradt (Amsterdam/Amsterdam) earned the win in relief of Griffin. Bradt pitched 5.1 innings and allowed five runs on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Hudson Valley returns to Region 3 action as they are scheduled to travel to Cayuga for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16. Game one is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY.
