Baseball Sweeps Jefferson for Sixth Straight Win

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program earned a doubleheader sweep over Jefferson for their sixth straight win on Tuesday evening at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

Game One: Hudson Valley 17, Jefferson 7 (6 Innings)

The Vikings overcame a three-run deficit after trailing Jefferson 7-4. Hudson Valley responded in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 7-7 and then exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to defeat Jefferson 17-7. 

Freshman pitcher Brian Lineback (Delanson/Mohonasen) earned the win in relief for Hudson Valley as he pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits and tallied two strikeouts with three walks. Donny Chrysler (Guilderland/Guilderland) earned the save, as he entered the game with a three-run lead and closed out the final two innings of the game. 

Nick Thomas (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) and Matt Dagostino (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) paced the Vikings offense as they combined for five hits and five RBIs. Thomas led off the third inning and connected for a solo home run to deep centerfield, sparking a Vikings three-run inning that tied the game at 7-7.

Vicente Mendoza (Norwood, Mass./Xavierian)also reached base three times in the game with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Anthony Raimo (Guilderland/Christian Brothers Academy) joined Thomas as the only Vikings to leave the yard in game one. Raimo sent a deep shot to left centerfield for a two-run home run in the sixth inning. 

Game Two: Hudson Valley 10, Jefferson 6 (7 Innings)

In the second game, the Vikings received a good pitching performance from starter Ryan Bradt (Amsterdam/Amsterdam). Bradt tossed five complete innings and allowed three runs on one hit and struck out five batters, while walking six. 

Mendoza continued to swing a hot bat in the second game as he collected two more base hits, including the game-winning two-run double in the fourth inning, which put the Vikings up on Jefferson for good. 

Jackson Wenstrom (Mandan, ND/Mandan) finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run triple. Thomas went yard for the second straight game and extended his hit streak to 11 consecutive games. 

Hudson Valley is scheduled to travel to Jefferson on Thursday, April 4 for another doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
