TROY, NY- The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Clinton Community College, winning game one, 17-0, and 10-0 in the nightcap today at Joe Bruno Stadium. With the sweep, the Vikings' improve to 24-7 on the season, and head into the final weekend of the regular season on a six-game winning streak.
In game one, Scott Robinson (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) drove in five runs with a triple and a home run and Rich Guillod (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley) added a 3-run home run during an eight-run fourth inning. Pitcher Justin Shannon allowed two hits and struck out four as he improved to 5-1 on the season.
In game two, Matt Valenti (Troy, NY/Troy) and Mike Guillod (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley) each drove in two runs while pitcher Ryan Washburn (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville, NY) allowed one hit and struck out to record his first shutout of the season. With the win, Washburn improved his record to 3-1.
The Vikings return to action on Saturday, May 3 when they host Herkimer Community College in a doubleheader at Joe Bruno Stadium (noon start). Hudson Valley closes out the regular season on Sunday with a doubleheader against Jefferson Community College at Joe Bruno Stadium (2 p.m. start).
