Todd Allen hit a two-run double in the top of the tenth inning to propel the Herkimer County Community College (30-5/23-3 Region III) baseball team to a 9-6 win over Hudson Valley Community College (25-17/14-5 Region III).
Bill Arpei and Chad Salls - the Generals fourth and fifth hitters in the lineup - did most of the damage for Herkimer. They each were three-for-five with two RBI.
Hudson Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Pinch-hitter Chris Spenello (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Catholic High School) led off the inning with a single.
With two outs, sophomore Tom Zink (Guilderland/Guilderland High School) hit an RBI triple to left-center. He came home to score when freshman Nate Novak's (Hudson/Hudson High School) ground ball was bobbled by the short stop.
Zink finished the game two-for-four with a triple and freshman Andrew Brickwedel (Troy/Catholic Central High School) was two for four with two RBI.
