The Hudson Valley Community College (18-7/6-1 Mountain Valley Conference) baseball team scored 26 runs on 22 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Adirondack Community College (2-10/0-6 MVC) earlier today at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.
Hudson Valley pounded out a season-high 14 hits in the opener. Sophomore Dan Bruno (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) had three hits, including a double and a triple, and three RBI. Freshman Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI. The Vikings also got two hits apiece from sophomores William Lewis (Middletown/Middletown High School) and Joel Molina (Middletown/Middletown High School), and freshmen Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) and Jesse Bulka (Summitt/Jefferson High School).
Sophomore pitcher K.K. Pierce (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the win and improve his record to 2-2 on the season. He allowed four hits, struck out four and walked none.
Freshman hurler Josh Frank (Glenmont/Bethlehem High School) allowed only three hits in the nightcap. He struck out six and walked one to improve his record to 2-0 on the year.
Freshman Christian Gonzalez (Brooklyn/Progress High School) had three hits and an RBI to pace the Vikings at the plate. Molina added a two-run double in the second game.
Hudson Valley is in the middle of a six-day stretch in which it will play 10 games. The Vikings will play at doubleheader at Cobleskill tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. and will return home face Herkimer County Community College on Monday in a doubleheader that starts at 3:15 p.m.
