The Hudson Valley Community College (14-6) baseball team pounded out 25 runs and 25 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Clinton Community College (1-7) earlier today at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The Vikings won the opener, 4-2, and the second game, 21-1.
The Vikings touched Clinton's pitching for 20 hits, including 11 extra-base hits in the second game. Freshman Joel Molina (Middletown/Middletown High School) led the way with four hits, including a double and a triple, and three RBI. Sophomore Ryan Gijon-Owen (Puebla, Mexico/Bowie, TX High School) was two-for-three with a double and a two-run home run. Sophomore Steve Sayre (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) had three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Freshmen Michael Alix (Green Island/Heatly High School) and Jeremy Storm (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley High School) combined to pitch a one-hitter over five innings.
In the opener, Sayre, Gijon-Owen, and sophomore Kyle Sharp (Latham/Shaker High School) each drove in runs for the Vikings. Sophomore Elvis Climes (Middletown/Middletown High School) scored two runs and stole four bases.
Sophomore Jesse Hendriksen (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury High School) went the distance on the mound to pick up the win for the Vikings. He allowed two runs on five hits, striking out 10 and walking two.
