Hudson Valley Community College's baseball team (24-7) is ranked second in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region III coaches poll, which is featured in the weekly Region III athletic report, released today. The report includes statistics from more than 30 colleges from across the Northeast. Hudson Valley's softball squad (15-5) is ranked third. The Lady Vikings also are ranked ninth in the nation among Division III teams.
The pitching staff of Hudson Valley's baseball team is holding down the number-one spot in Region III with a combined 3.40 earned run average (ERA).
Individually, freshman Bobby Krogh (Troy) is fifth in strikeouts, having recorded 42 this season. He also ranks fourth in runs batted in (28).
Hudson Valley's softball team ranks third in Region III with a .409 batting average.
Angela Jackson (Colonie) has posted 68 strikeouts, third best among Region III pitchers. Her 1.76 ERA is fourth best. Jackson, a sophomore right-hander who won 13 games last year, tossed a five-inning no-hitter against SUNY Delhi on April 17. The game ended after five innings due to a mercy rule; Hudson Valley won, 28-0. Jackson is now 11-0 this season.
